A new feature of the VP9 that is becoming more common in pistols is the ability to adjust the pistol grip to fit a wide range of hand sizes. The Smith & Wesson M&P (Military and Police) was first introduced in 2005 as a hybrid of two previous rifles, the Sigma and the SW99.
