After a complete verification of the military record of each Soldier in process, this section, in coordination with the G1/AG Force Management, issues the unit assignment order. The necessary forms are filled out to facilitate smooth processing at all stations. Soldiers receive briefings and/or reviews from the following processing stations:

During processing, personnel records are checked and updated through the Personnel Support Department of the Consolidated Records and Departures Processing Center, including the preparation of new emergency data sheets and employee group life insurance. If necessary, I.D. card application, DEERS registration and ID. Tags are prepared. Soldiers eligible for promotion to grades E2-E4 during transit will be promoted. Promotional packages for Soldiers on the E5 and E6 lists are reviewed for inclusion on the Fort Polk fixed promotion list, and Soldiers on the Department of the Army promotion lists are screened and documented.

Service members of all grades are scheduled and attend the School of Standards (SOS) and are part of completing their initial processing.

If you are entering the pole from US Highway 171: Enter through the MAIN GATE (Louisiana Avenue) at the fourth (4th) traffic light (Mississippi Avenue); turn right on Mississippi Ave, then left on 14thstreet, bldg. 1830 will be on your left.

If you enter the pole from US Highway 28: Turn left from Highway 28 onto Chaffee Road (approximately 2 miles to the Chaffee Road checkpoint; approximately 2.5 miles before Chaffee turns into Alabama Avenue). Chaffee Road takes you past the North Fort to the South Fort. In South Fort, Chaffee Road becomes Alabama Avenue (a one-way street). The 1830 building is located at the corner of Alabama Avenue and 14th Street.

All enlisted personnel attend a mandatory Induction Orientation administered by the Army's Readiness for Outplacement Program (ACS) in coordination and cooperation with the G1 Force and Personnel Management, per AR 608-1 and AR 600-8-11. The best part of living in the middle of nowhere is the real estate value. Everything is very affordable here. Even in Leesville, there are plenty of two-bedroom apartments for rent for less than $700. The city of Leesville has a population of about 10,000. It's also less than a 20-minute drive from Fort Polk. It's a great little community to cater to the urban oriented crowd that comes here.

Rosefine is a small town of 1,600 people just a 15 minute drive from Fort Polk. It was founded in 1902 as a logging community and is the second largest city in Vernon Parish. There are six churches in the district. It's a comfortable 4 square miles on Rosefine, but still has everything you could want in a small town.

DeRidder is half an hour's drive south of the outpost. It is a small town with a population of about 10,000 people. Here you get a good balance between rural and urban life,
